Ioannina is the biggest city of Epirus. Being built on the bank of Lake Pamvotis in 500m altitude, it fascinates everyone with its beauty and its warm atmosphere. It is a lively city of 100.000 inhabitants, which carries a history of centuries. The city combines everything. There are idyllic spots for romantic walks, superb traditional cuisine, important museums and sights.

”The tour includes visit to the island of Pamvotis lake, the Castle (Aslan Mosque, Fethiye Mosque, the Byzantine Museum), the Perama Cave, Pavlos Vrellis Wax Museum, the Archaeological museum, the lakefront area and Dodoni archaeological site.”

Vrellis Museum: The Pavlos Vrellis Greek History Museum also known as Pavlos Vrellis Museum of Wax Effigies is a privately owned wax museum in Ioannina Prefecture, Greece. It was set up by the sculptor Pavlos Vrellis in February 1983, and is the best known wax museum in Greece. The museum hosts 150 wax models in 37 themes, inspired by various events from Greek history.

Perama Cave: Mt. Goritsa risies above the village of Perama and Limni Ioanninon (Lake Ioannina). Perama Cave is located inside this hill. The cave is part of the bed of an underground river and was formed in the pre-Quaternary period, about 1.5 Million years ago. The river formed three cave levels. The most famous feature in this cave is the stalagmite known as the Cross. It started as a cloven stalagmite, developed from drops falling from two stalactites above. Once the tip of one stalactite broke and fell down. But instead of hitting the floor, it came to rest between the twin summits of the stalagmite. Subsequent growth first anchored the stalactite and then continued the growth of the stalagmite, creating a cross.
DODONI – The Oracle of Zeus
Dodoni archaeological site is one of the most ancient of oracles in Greece. It was dedicated to Zeus. It’ not as well known as other archeological sites in Greece, but it’s a nice place to visit, especially to see one of the best preserved ancient Greek theaters.
