Description
The view from the highest point is truly breath-taking. Climbing the Rock of Great Saint, is performed by using equipment along the ancient trail, which was carved on the edge of the rock, with amazing views over Meteora and Kalabaka. The route was used during the Middle Ages, by monks who used to live in the now deserted monastery of the Twelve Apostles (Dodeka Apostoloi). The Rock of Great Saint, was a fort thousands of years ago. It’s really worth visiting this place for an experience you won’t forget.
The route combines easy climbing at first, and then a lot of hiking in a horizontal line, traversing a narrow path, carved on the edge of the rock, on the side of Meteora, carved by monks many centuries ago.
