Activity info
Visit two of the most important cultural sites of Ancient Greece, enjoy personalized attention from your private expert guide and transportation by luxury air conditioned vehicle. Explore the world renowned Acropolis of Athens and see the fabled Cape Sounion.
After your accurate pick up from your Athens central hotel, begin your private experience with a photo stop at Panathinaiko Stadium where the first Olympic Games took place in 1896. Proceed, passing by Zappeion and Temple of Olympian Zeus. Continue passing by Athens Trilogy, National Garden, Hadrian’s Arc, St. Paul’s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown soldier, Numismatic Museum, Old Parliament, Constitution Square and finally reach the UNESCO-listed Acropolis. Stroll around the ancient citadel while your professional expert tour guide relates to you the fascinating history of such monuments as the Temple of Athena Nike, the Theatre of Dionysus and, of course, the majestic Parthenon. Next, head to the Acropolis museum. Main attractions such as votives, statues from archaic period, Caryatids, and of course the Parthenon hall with the metopes, the pediments and the frieze will impress you.
After a morning tour full of images continue in a local restaurant under the slopes of Acropolis for a delicious lunch (optional) before your visit to the majestic Cape Sounion.
Cape Sounion has long played an important part in Greek mythology and history, and the first recorded mention of it occurs in the Odyssey, as the last safe landing before Poseidon scattered the returning Greek navy. As god of the sea, Poseidon was hugely important to the Greeks, and the scale of the Temple at Cape Sounion reflects that. Cape Sounion tours have attracted celebrities in the past – the Romantic poet Byron’s name is inscribed in a pillar. After time to explore the Temple and its surroundings, the tour returns to Athens.
