Archaeological Museum, in front of Hari’s Creperie, Heraklion at 08.30 to start the visit of the Heraklion
Archeological Museum, the second biggest in Greece, after the Museum of Athens. The tour begins with
introduction of the oldest findings of Crete from 6000bc, then of the highlight Minoan palaces of Knossos,
Festos, Mallia and Zakros. The tour continues with objects from cemeteries, shrines, houses and ends with the
Minoan frescoes of Knossos.
When we finish with the visit of the Archaeological Museum, at approximately 10.30, we will start to explore the
historical city center of Heraklion. Visit, along with your expert tour host, Heraklion’s major monuments…. travel
through time and its rich history. Discover the past and the present of a city that combines old with new. The
7th labor of Hercules was performed here, the birthplace of famous painter El Greco and writer Nikos
Kazantzakis. On this tour hear stories about Heraklion's turbulent past and visit its legendary churches, fountains
and monuments like Saint Minas Cathedral, Lion’s Square (here you will have the opportunity to taste
Traditional Cretan Mpougatsa and raki). Continue with Tito’s Church, Heraklion Town Hall, Kule’s Fortress and
other Venetian monumental buildings. Return at the terminal of Cretan Spiti Travel, at 13:00.
